Driving into Los Angeles

We set off for Los Angeles and Anaheim about 8.45 on Sunday morning. We have about 95 miles to Anaheim and plan to get there as soon as possible. It is a Sunday - should be a breeze!

There is still a lot of agriculture along the highway but more and more built up and residential areas. The urban density! The highway is OK  - only 3 lanes.

9.15 - 4 lanes;  9.30 - 5 lanes and still 60 miles to go!!

We take an exit off  Hwy 101 for gas - all sorts of problems. The first gas station we pull into is too difficult to manoevre. That one had the cheaper fuel. We give up and go down the road - much easier access. The bonus is a Starbucks just across the road.

As we get closer to Los Angeles the traffic increases.
We see the Hollywood sign on the hills.
The road signs set the scene; Ventura Freeway, Hollywood, Sacramento, Santa Monica, Burbank and ... Los Angeles.

The traffic is much heavier as we approach I-5 ... and then we are travelling south on I-5 to Anaheim.

I-5 is the main Interstate Highway on the West Coast of the US, running largely parallel with the Pacific Ocean from Mexico to Canada.
We have avoided it to a certain extent but are about to become much more familiar with it as we drive the kids around LA.

We arrive at the Anaheim Resort RV Park  about 12.30pm.
Kim and Finlay are booked into a motel within walking distance of us. After the problems they had last night in Ventura, we walk around to check out the motel.  It is OK - for one night  anyway.

We are leaving Los Angeles tomorrow and driving to Las Vegas. We will store the RV at the RV Park; we have a rental car to pick up tomorrow morning.

After 6 nights in Las Vegas we will return to the RV Park the following Sunday. Then we have 6 days in LA. So we also check out the motel next door which looks a bit nicer. We decide that Kim and Finlay will stay there when we get back from Las Vegas. We are able to cancel the booking for the former motel and rebook the one next door - without penalty

We can see the palm trees that surround  Disneyland. Disneyland is to come; there is a shuttle to Disneyland from the RV Park which will be handy. And at 9pm the fireworks start! We are close enough to get a really good view. They last for half an hour. Could they be for us??

But first we are off to Las Vegas!!
