Our drive south west took us through York where we found a beer outlet!
Another important stop was to a Wells Fargo Bank to apply for a temporary Visa card for me (after having my wallet stolen in New York). We posted mail to Australia and did some shopping.
We are headed for Gettysburg; have booked into a KOA RV park just outside Gettysburg for 3 nights which we extended to 4 nights (more of that later).
We didn't realise that the campground was host to a Halloween weekend, albeit early; an annual event as they close for winter before the actual Halloween on 31 October. I may have mentioned earlier that over the last few weeks we have come across a lot of Halloween and harvest decorations. Many front gardens are decorated, wreaths hang on front doors, large pots of chrysanthemums and pumpkins are everywhere. I love the harvest decorations and have bought a scarecrow, a 'mum' and a pumpkin candle!
The morning after!! |
Not in league with the decorations around us! |
Halloween straddles the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death. It is a time for celebration ... and superstition; harvest and life to dormancy and gloom.
We notice a few campers putting up decorations on Thursday when we arrive; by Friday the numbers have grown and the decorations likewise.
A Trick or Treat Parade has been organised for Saturday night and lots of activities during the day.
Gettysburg is a pretty town. Of course the fall colours continue to show their brilliancy. How could a town not look beautiful!
