The Rev. A L Green

On 4 November the clocks went forward 1 hour. It is the end of daylight saving.
It is also a cool morning - different to yesterday when we reached a record max of 83 degrees! I guess that was the reason for the downpour we had last night.
We are headed for the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church on Hale Road, Memphis Sth. We have always wanted to experience a gospel church service. The Reverend Al Green left a successful recording career in the 1970's to pursue his calling. He established the church in 1976 and is the pastor and founder.

We were not sure when the service started. We parked the RV in the carpark of the church about 10 to eleven. Found that the service started at 11.30. It lasted 3 hours! It was amazing!!
The website stated that there are usually 60 congregation members and 20 visitors/tourists. That was about right. The service was electric; the members were larger than life; their voices were wonderfully strong. The women were dressed beautifully ...  there were lots of Hallelujahs and clapping.

We start our driving about 2.30pm.  Fortunately we only have about 100 miles to Tupelo, Mississippi.

We are on our way to Red Bay, Alabama - the home of Tiffin Motor Homes. We have a Tiffin Allegro Open Road motor home. The irony is that we bought the RV from a guy in Huntsville, Alabama about an hour and a half drive from Red Bay.
At that time we were anxious to head straight for South Dakota and although we would have liked to visit the assembly plant in Red Bay it was not a priority.
Now that we know so much more about our RV it makes sense to go to Red Bay and we are looking forward to it very much.

Elvis Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. There are museums and attractions in the town all relating to Elvis and his early childhood. But we have to move on, more's the pity.
We arrive at the Barnes Crossing Campground just before dark. We are about 60 miles from Red Bay.
We check out the Tiffin website - there are daily tours of the assembly plant each day starting at 9.30am.  It will be an early start!

Red Bay
We arrive on time. The tour lasted  2 and a half hours and showed us all along the assembly line from chassis to on the road. It was fascinating.

3 miles of  cabling in each RV!

An early model.
There were 14 people taking the tour - all RV owners. We were a source of interest!! They were fascinated that we had come from Australia and had bought a Tiffin motor home. We also met Bob Tiffin snr, the president of the company. We had a great time.

We drive to the Service Centre; there are a couple of issues that we want checked out. We register for further investigation. We are parked in an overflow area - we have power but not water or sewer. We don't know how long before we will be seen to. The guy next to us has been here for 10 days!!
