Our last few days in the motor home.

We spend a couple of days in a place called Pleasanton, in Alameda County, a suburb in the San Francisco Bay area about 25 miles east of Oakland. We stay at a State RV park at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. The weather is lovely! We rent a car and spend the day exploring Pleasanton and Livermore, about 6 miles further east. It is fun. We dine out at night!

We have driven through the Sacramento Valley which has an agricultural mix similar to that of the San Joaquin Valley to the south. It also grows rice and olive trees. Although the soil appears to be very dry there is a lot of reticulation in some areas. It must be very fertile for there are miles upon miles of fruit trees and other crops.

A gas station!

Pleasanton and Livermore are pretty towns with lots of galleries, craft shops, restaurants and cafes.

The trees are now wearing their Fall colours; they look beautiful.

Then we are on the move, finally, to San Francisco. We have a site for 3 nights at the Treasure Island RV Park in South San Francisco. We stayed here in April when the kids came over. It is close to San Francisco Airport which makes it convenient. This is where we will meet Bryan, our prospective buyer, on Friday when he flies in from Texas.

A serendipitous occurrence ... we have only returned to 2 RV parks in the whole of our trip. The first RV park we stayed at was in Nashville, Tennessee. We returned to that same RV Park about 4 months later on our way south last year. Now we have returned to Treasure Island RV Park in San Francisco, 6 months after staying here in April and it will be our last RV Park.

The drive from Pleasanton into San Francisco is a sad one; it may be our last day of driving in the RV! We only have 45 miles to go. We are quickly into heavy traffic and busy highways. We have a great day for driving - fine, sunny and mild and no wind. Perfect conditions for such a momentous day!!

Our route takes us across San Francisco Bay on the San Mateo Bridge which carries Highway 92. Opened in 1967, its total length is 7 miles. The original bridge, known as the San Francisco Bay Toll-Bridge was opened in 1929 and was then the longest bridge in the world.
It is a spectacular bridge with expansive views across the bay.

It is a Toll bridge. I remember our first Toll bridge a long time ago and how concerned we were as we approached it. Now we are experts!!

Just to let you know ...

Our son Mace is a member of the Cottesloe Crabs Winter Swimming Club. Thanks to his sister Kim and some of the members of the Club, notably Simon Joel, he has continued to attend the club while Trevor is away.
Last Sunday we received several emails from Crab members letting us know that Mace had been awarded the Presidents Trophy!!

One of the emails went on to say:

" He was awarded the trophy because he is always there, always        happy, even when he has to put guys in their place for suggesting        that his dad is in jail!  Loved and respected by everyone."

What a way to make a gal cry!!

I couldn't resist!
