A Sunday in Key West.

This morning we drove around the island. Went by the beaches, condominiums, the airport, in fact everywhere - in about 5 minutes. Joking! We had lunch at Pepe's Cafe, the oldest eating house in the Florida Keys. It was established in 1909 and is open every day of the year for breakfast, lunch and dinner. President Truman loved to eat here.

Late afternoon we went back into Duval Street - heading for sunset at Mallory Square said to take place at 5.32pm. We bought a margarita on the way!! There were lots of people milling around; lots of displays, characters, acts and music. Dogs too. It was so alive! The sunset was beautiful.

We bought a pizza on the way home and watched the memorial service for Sandy Hook on TV.

The next morning, Monday 17 December, we were up early. We left Chelsea House at about 7am.  We have to have the rental car back by 12. The sun is coming up as we drive out of Key West; quite a dramatic sunrise.

On the return trip we take Card Sound Road which runs through the Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
